What a marvelous achievement! We have crossed another milestone of existence. It has been 110 years since the founding of First Baptist Church on October 4, 1912.
I have been privileged to be the pastor of this great, dynamic church that has been a beacon of support for this community for a long time. I have met people in different states who knew about First Baptist Church although they were a long way from North Carolina. In fact, many in the community have either belonged to or been strongly associated with the church. We are known everywhere in the continental United States. The pioneers who started the church left a wonderful legacy for us to continue. God has richly blessed us in more ways than we can honestly say.
Homecoming is an opportunity to see old acquaintances that have impacted our lives. It is a wonderful tradition of remembrance, fun, and fellowship. We can come together one more time to see one another and appreciate each other while thanking the Lord for the blessings that He bestowed on all of us. First Baptist Church, one of the oldest African American churches in Fuquay-Varina has nurtured the start of many successful individuals in the very walls of the church. We should never turn our backs on our roots. I thank God today for the opportunity to see so many come home to be a part of this annual tradition of celebrating homecoming.
This homecoming we celebrate what God has done in our midst and what God is going to do in the days to come. For the Bible says in Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen." And continues in verse six, "And without faith it is impossible to please God."
We celebrate this homecoming by faith in the God of the Bible. God is getting ready to do remarkable things in the life of First Baptist Church. May we express the kind of faith that Joshua and the Israelites army had. After marching around Jericho once a day for six days and on the seventh day they marched seven times, then they watched the walls came tumbling down. What a great victory God gave them! God bless each of you as you have faith in God like never before.
